Getting the Most out of your Visit to Cal Day

You park your car at the top of the campus, eager to step out and get started with the day. It’s been years in the making: You’ve applied, you’ve waited months to hear back, you’ve jumped for joy after your acceptance, and you’ve accepted your offer of admission without hesitation. You’ve always known that you wanted to be a Golden Bear, but now it’s real. Now you have thousands of current college students, waiting to meet you and welcome you to Berkeley.

As you walk out of the parking lot and up to California Memorial Stadium, you see the waves of visitors start to pick up pace. Faces just like yours, wide eyed, excited, and maybe a little nervous, are all around you, and you feel lost in the thousands of admitted students coming to visualize their future at Berkeley. With so much going on and so much to see, where do you start? How do you know if this zoo of a campus is right for you? How do you even find your way around?

To start off, get the most out of your VIP access. New this year, Cal Day has events just for admitted students, giving them priority for getting up to the Campanile Observation deck, reserved front-row seating for keynote speakers, free brunch, and much more. Admits and their families can attend presentations tailored to their experiences and next steps in coming to Berkeley, and they can take advantage of certain photo opportunities that they earned by being accepted to Berkeley. The next four years promise a slew of opportunities and overwhelming possibilities, and Cal Day is only the beginning. Thousands of students just like you are headed to campus, ready to explore, and see what UC Berkeley has to offer on such a special day. Here are some highlights just to get you started!

As you step onto the stadium plaza, make sure to pick up your newly admitted student VIP pass, sign in, and visit the Chancellor’s welcome inside the stadium. It’s a great way to start your day off right, and feel welcomed into the amazing community that awaits you. Afterwards, as you descend the stadium steps and cross the street to campus, your future awaits, and ambassadors, professors, and alumni alike are lined up to meet you, show you around, and give you insight into what it means to be a Berkeley student.

Take a tour! For one day out of the whole year, we offer free tours without reservation or planning! No matter who you are, just bring your interest in Berkeley, your questions, and you will to explore for a quick 1 hour tour, and see the best of Berkeley hosting thousands of our closest friends.

Visit a lecture! There aren’t many opportunities for you to attend a lecture and just listen without worry of being tested on every last bit of the information you hear, so take advantage of them! Professors will be ready to show you the best of what they teach, and introduce you to the kinds of topics you might study as a college student.

Try your hand at designing a city! Head into Wurster Hall to see lectures and tours of the College of Environmental Design, fabrication shops, and studio projects, and even make a building yourself that will be contributed to a larger Cal Day community project!

Take a Cable Car Tour! If you’ve ever wanted to take an easy ride through the California sun and hear about Berkeley’s exciting history, these cable car tours are perfect for you! Sit back and relax as you get a comprehensive tour of UC Berkeley and the surrounding city that we call home.

Get your grub on! Cal Day food trucks are back, offering delicious food as you make your way from the Campanile clock and bell tower to the Data Science grand presentation. Sit back and recharge with a filling burrito or fizzy drink, while the busyness of the day surrounds you.

Learn about developments in CRISPR, design innovation, volunteer service, historical research, and much more on Cal Day, and start to envision your place among thousands of other Berkeley students that take pride in shouting “Go Bears!” Learn to call Berkeley your home, and “invent a career that doesn’t exist.” Cal Day is only the beginning of the rest of your life, so get ready to have fun and embrace the excitement of the day!
